Past
In the beginning the Light, whom later became known as God, created the race of man. The Darkness seeing these new children, and how much they appeared to love and adore the light wished for such a thing herself created the dark ones. The two species shared the earth equally, but it was far from a peaceful time. Man feared the dark and anything associated with it. This fear turned into hatred. Both the Light and Darkness tried bridge understanding between the two people, but it was clear that their attempts was all in vain. Man's hatred of the dark and everything connected to it only grew worse with each passing day. It was during this time that Aslan and twin sister Idola was born. They were born of the union between a dark one and an angel. When he and his sister got older they were asked to head an organization called The Cryptic Rose. Their primary duty was to bridge understanding between the children of the Light and children of the Darkness. They had other responsibilities. For example, they were something of a police force that dealt with any children of the darkness whom broke her laws.
It wasn't long after they were asked to head The Cryptic Rose that their father became known as The Great Betrayer. He revealed to the race of man the secrets to killing the king and queen. The king and queen's children might have suffered the same fate if The Cryptic Rose haven't managed to hide them from their would be killers. They planned on continuing to hide and protect them until one of them could ascend to their parents' throne. Once they were safe, the only question remained was what to do with the one being called The Great Betrayer, but before a decision could be made he vanished. The Light, however, didn't believe he was the only one responsible. He might have revealed the secret but it was man's hand whom did the deed. The Light was angry with his children for what they had done. He decided to remove the sun from the sky. They could live within the darkness until they learned not to hate it.
The dark ones were more than happy to aid the humans to adjust to this new world without the sun. By doing so, they showed the humans they held no ill feeling towards them for the things man had done to their people because of their fear and hatred of the dark, and thus showed them that the Darkness and her children were not as big of monster as they believed. It was around this time that the Darkness asked the Cryptic Rose to raise and protect her daughter. The girl was not physically born of her body, but she was still her child nevertheless. Aslan has come to love his--as he refers to her---adopted daughter, but the two of them are constantly at odds. He tends to be more a stickler for the rules while she tends to be more of a free spirit.
As the years drifted passed man's relationship with the dark ones shifted from beings they feared and hatred to ones they worshiped. At first, Dark ones tried to discourage this belief, but as time went on they embraced their roles as deities as much as man did. Some claimed it was for the best intention of humans, but eventually time made them forget this claim and they begun to treat man as nothing more than their playthings. Aslan and the other Cryptic Rose attempted to punish those whom did such a thing, but it soon became clear that they would end up killing their entire race if they punished everyone. So, they turned a blind eye to most of their people's wrongdoing and only sentence those whom had committed the most horrendous of crimes to death.
Eventually The Trinity Rose to power, and the laws and custom of Aslan's people became even more twisted and corrupted. He like the other members of his organization begun to believe that the only way to save their people soul was for one of the king and queen's children to claim their inheritance or for the incarnation of the king and queen to reclaim their throne. Aslan decided to go with the children. He didn't know when the king and queen would be reborn. He had no doubt that they would. The prophet whom foretold their reincarnation have never given a false prophecy. Through, people at times have misinterpreted them. Aslan turned his attention towards Azmyth--the oldest of the three royal children and the one most likely to overthrow the Trinity. It didn't take Aslan much to convince Azmyth to do so. It might have been because he was already considering it before Aslan approached him.
Azmyth succeeded in overthrowing The Trinity, but instead of banishing them or even killing them he asked them to take the role as his top lords and members of his inner council. He than moved to return The dark ones to the way they had been before or even shortly after the sun had been removed. Some called him foolish. They claimed such a thing was impossible. They believed that the dark ones enjoyed their status and all the privileges that came with it to ever return to the old ways, but this did not discourage Azmyth. He knew that change would not happen over night, and that things would never truly return to what it once was, however, that didn't mean they shouldn't try. Sure enough, their society begun to change to fit Azmyth's vision.
Yet, it was not fast enough for humans and their protectors. The light had sent his first children--angels--to the earth to protect man against the dark ones, but angels needed the light to survive and they could not protect man to the best of their abilities in a world of enteral darkness. They asked The Light to find another protector for man and he responded by traveling to a realm called Hell to recruit demons for the task. At first, everything was good but than demons begun to treat humans in the same manners that the dark ones have. Man were underneath the mercy of both demons and dark ones for a time until a human by the name of Sara Jean climbed to the top of the tallest mountain and convinced The Light to return the sun.
Most of the dark ones retreated to another realm when the sun was brought back, but man's days of being oppressed by supernatural masters were far from over. The return of the sun allowed angels to defend man to the full extent of the abilities. This was not enough. No matter how hard the angels tried it was clear that demons had the upper hand. The light decided to tip the scale by creating a being named Sol. She was to act as a protector of man, but events happened that turned her from a being of justice into one of vengeance. Demons were being slaughtered for simply being demons and not for any crimes they might have committed. This continued for awhile until Sol called for a meeting with the king of hell and The Light. Together they created the covenant of heaven and hell. The covenant claimed that earth belonged to man. It established the rules that the supernatural had to obey while within man's domain, and set out the punishment for breaking these rules.
Time marched on and man forgot about the days when there was no sun. They carved out their own countries until the modern world arose. Aslan watched this all with fascination. Unlike with many other of the dark ones, he haven't retreated to the realm that the dark ones have made into their new realm. Being a half-angel means he doesn't suffer the same ill effects from the sun as many of the full-breed dark ones does. Yet, even if he was a full-breed he would probably not have retreated to this other realm. Earth is his home. He understands the rules put into place to protect man, and has no intention of breaking them, but he has lived on earth far longer than any society that man can remember. He often visits the dark ones new home. He has people he cares about whom are still there, and they are still his people.
More than that he is still one of the head of the Cryptic Rose, he would not be doing his duties if he turned his back on one. There is, also, the fact traveling between both realms allows him to keep an eye out for the reincarnation of the king and queen. He doesn't know why but with each passing day he feels as if their return is upon them. He wants to ensure that he finds them instead of someone else, whom might attempt to use them to restore the dark ones society to what it was during the days when the Trinity ruled or shortly before that.
